루전 소개

Lu Zhen, or "Lu Town," is a recreated period town within the larger Keyan Scenic Area west of central Shaoxing, built as a physical realization of the fictional town that recurs throughout the short stories and fiction of Lu Xun. As the only major Chinese theme park dedicated specifically to a literary setting, Lu Zhen translates the literary geography of one of modern China's most studied writers into a walkable townscape of canals, stone bridges, courtyards, and period streets.

The town is divided by waterways into three connected sections, with the principal axis running from the entrance stone memorial arch through the folk customs street, the dual-sided opera stage, and the network of smaller lanes and courtyards beyond. Each of the principal buildings corresponds to a specific location in Lu Xun's fiction: the Zhao Family Ancestral Hall, the Kuiwen Pavilion, the Earth God Shrine where Ah Q took shelter, the Zhao family compound from "New Year's Sacrifice," and the Qian residence, designed as a physical interpretation of the "man-eating" environment of "A Madman's Diary." Bridges link the districts, and the canals are periodically crossed by wupeng boats that add movement and color to the streetscape.

The most distinctive feature of Lu Zhen is the presence of costumed actors playing the principal characters of Lu Xun's fiction. Ah Q, Xianglin sao, and other figures walk the streets in character, interacting with visitors, reciting well-known lines, and posing for photographs. Periodic performances at the dual-sided opera stage present scenes from Shaoxing opera and from the broader tradition of regional folk performance, and the streets themselves are lined with craft workshops, antique-style shops, and small restaurants serving Shaoxing specialties.

For international visitors, Lu Zhen is best understood as a literary theme park rather than as a historic town. Its meaning depends heavily on familiarity with Lu Xun's fiction, and travelers who have read the principal stories in translation will find the experience considerably more rewarding than those arriving without that context. The town is typically visited as part of a half-day or full-day circuit through the larger Keyan Scenic Area, in combination with the stone quarries of Keyan and the lake landscapes of Jianhu, and is reached via a dedicated entrance on the south side of the Keyan complex.
