루구호 소개

Lugu Lake sits on the border between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces at an elevation of around 2,685 meters, and is often described as a "pearl of the plateau" for its clear water and dramatic mountain surroundings. It is one of the more remote highland lakes accessible from Lijiang and is closely associated with the Mosuo people, an ethnic community known for distinctive social and family traditions that have long drawn cultural interest from visitors.

The lake itself is ringed by mountains and dotted with small villages along its shores, where traditional wooden houses and simple guesthouses look out over the water. Visitors often explore the lake by boat, including traditional dugout canoes known locally as "pig-trough boats," paddled by local villagers, offering close-up views of the shoreline and surrounding peaks. The clarity of the water and the relatively unspoiled rural scenery are among the lake's main draws, along with the opportunity to learn about Mosuo customs and daily life in the lakeside communities.

Because Lugu Lake is a significant distance from Lijiang and sits at high altitude, visitors should plan for a full day of travel each way, or ideally an overnight stay, to properly experience the area without rushing. The mountain roads and elevation mean travel times can be longer than the straight-line distance suggests, and layered clothing is advisable given the cooler highland climate.

For travelers with extra time in their Lijiang itinerary, Lugu Lake makes a rewarding multi-day excursion, offering a quieter, more rural counterpart to the old town and mountain sights closer to the city, along with a deeper look at the region's ethnic diversity.
