홍주산 삼림온천 소개
Hongzhushan Forest Hot Spring is a high-end hot-spring spa set within the forested grounds of the historic Hongzhushan Hotel, beside Baoguo Temple at the base of Mount Emei. As the forest in its name suggests, the spring is integrated into the slope's existing tree cover rather than laid out as open pool decks, which makes it one of the more atmospheric thermal-bathing sites in the Sichuan Basin and a particularly restful complement to a Mount Emei pilgrimage.
The layout takes advantage of the natural topography. Nineteen outdoor pools are scattered up the hillside, partially screened by mature trees and connected by winding stone paths and wooden walkways. Because the pools are staggered rather than crowded onto a single terrace, each one feels relatively private, and the experience of moving between temperatures is closer to a quiet forest walk than to a resort pool deck. The whole setting is a deliberate exercise in restraint — the landscaping steps back and lets the existing woodland do the work.
The water is drawn from a deep geothermal source beneath Mount Emei and emerges at the surface naturally warm, colorless, and low in mineral odor. The spring is promoted as both a soaking and a drinking water, reflecting traditional Chinese views on the medicinal value of thermal water, and the long residence time of the groundwater at depth is part of the property's story. The water is regulated and cooled before reaching the pools, in line with standard hot-spring practice.
For international visitors, Hongzhushan is best scheduled as a recovery evening after a Mount Emei summit trip or as a quiet luxury stop at the start of a Sichuan itinerary. It is more expensive than the larger Lingxiu Hot Spring nearby, and the tradeoff is specifically the forested setting and the relative intimacy of the pools. Allow two to three hours to do the circuit justice.
As a complement to the Buddhist architecture and alpine scenery of Mount Emei, Hongzhushan Forest Hot Spring adds a quiet, bodily, almost meditative dimension — a long, slow soak among the trees after days of stone steps and summit views. For travelers who want the natural side of Emei without another hike, it is one of the most rewarding ways to end a visit to this UNESCO site.
