The Golden Pebble Beach Resort (Jinshitan) is a 5A-rated national-level tourist area on the coast roughly an hour northeast of central Dalian, often called the "back garden" of the city. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, the resort brings together a remarkable concentration of attractions within a single, well-organized zone: the Discoveryland theme park, the Golden Coast beach, the Binhai National Geopark, and several museums, golf courses, and hot-spring facilities. For travelers with more than a day in Dalian, a trip to Jinshitan is one of the most rewarding excursions available.

The geological setting is the headline draw. The Binhai National Geopark, at the southeastern corner of the resort, preserves a stretch of coast where hundreds of millions of years of sedimentary deposition have produced bizarrely sculpted rock formations — sea stacks, arches, layered limestones, and concretions that resemble animals, faces, and abstract artworks. Some formations have evocative names like "Stone Monkey Watching the Sea" and "Great Peng Spreading Its Wings," and the park is one of the most rewarding geological sites on China's northeast coast.

The Golden Coast offers a long stretch of sandy beach with cleaner water and softer sand than the urban beaches of Dalian proper. It is a popular spot for swimming, beach volleyball, and water sports during the summer months, with facilities for families, restaurants, and rental equipment. Several museums — including a wax museum, a geological museum, and a life-mystery museum — are clustered near the light-rail station, providing rainy-day options.

Practical logistics are straightforward. Light-rail Line 3 connects Dalian Railway Station to the resort in about fifty minutes, and an on-site hop-on hop-off shuttle circles the main attractions. Most visitors buy a multi-attraction pass rather than individual tickets. Allow at least one full day, or two for a more relaxed pace. The May-to-October window is the most popular, with the best beach weather in July and August.
