The Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Area is a sweeping mosaic of meadow, woodland, and wetland in Weichang county, north of Chengde, sitting adjacent to the famous Saihanba National Forest Park and sharing the same high plateau landscape. Often visited together with Saihanba under a joint ticket, it offers a gentler, more open counterpart to the dense planted forests next door, with broad horizons of grass dotted by trees and ponds. For travelers on a self-drive tour of the Bashang region, it is a natural and photogenic stop.

The scenery here moves between open grasslands, where cattle and horses graze against wide skies, and quiet stands of birch and pine that turn gold in autumn. Small lakes and wetlands attract birds and add reflective surfaces to the landscape, while gently rolling ridges provide panoramic viewpoints reachable by short walks from the road. The mood is spacious and unhurried, and the appeal is in the overall landscape rather than any single named sight.

A private car is essentially required, as there is no internal shuttle service and the area is far too large to cross on foot. The standard approach is to drive in via Saihanba on the joint ticket and explore Yudaokou as the grassland half of the same day's loop. Summer and early autumn are the best seasons, when the grass is high and the weather is comfortable, though the plateau cools sharply at night. Bring layers, water, and snacks, since services are limited inside the scenic area, and plan for slow driving on the unpaved side roads.

Yudaokou is best understood as the grassland companion to Saihanba's forest, and the two together form one of the most rewarding scenic circuits in northern China. For travelers building a two- or three-day Bashang itinerary out of Chengde, it deserves a full day, with time to drive, stop, walk, and simply take in the scale of the plateau.
