Bamboo-Leaf Rice Cake
Spécialités gourmandesBamboo-leaf rice cake is made from glutinous rice flour dough stuffed with red bean paste or sesame-sugar filling, wrapped tightly in fresh bamboo leaves and steamed. The bamboo aroma permeates the glutinous rice, making it fragrant, sweet and soft.
Emeishan and its surroundings are rich in bamboo. Residents used bamboo leaves as a natural wrapper that retains aroma and prevents sticking, making bamboo-leaf rice cakes a traditional festival food of the mountain area, particularly popular around the Dragon Boat Festival.
Can be eaten hot or cooled. Once unwrapped, the sticky rice cake is already infused with bamboo fragrance, a portable sweet treat to carry while hiking on Emeishan.
The combination of natural bamboo leaf aroma with the soft chewiness of glutinous rice is bamboo-leaf cake's most distinctive quality — a reflection of Emeishan's bamboo-rich landscape and food culture.
