In 1885, the Tengchong-Heshun native Cun Zunfu (1855–1929) founded the Fushenglong trading house in Mandalay, Burma, dealing in the mining, working and sale of jade. Cun had left for Burma at thirteen and learnt the emerald trade at the Hpakan mines; Shanghai merchants later hailed him as the "king of Chinese jade," and Sun Yat-sen praised him as "a leader of overseas Chinese and a glory of the nation" for his support of the 1911 Revolution. The firm eventually put down roots in Heshun, a living example of the old saying "jade comes forth from Tengyue."

Ce qui a fait sa renommée

For over a century Fushenglong has held to a creed of "natural and authentic" jade, earning a fine name among Tengchong's emerald houses. Since the mid-Ming, Tengchong pioneered jade working in China and by the Qing had become the largest distributing centre for Burmese stone, nurturing the "six famed jades" and many jade dynasties; Fushenglong is the modern continuation of that lineage.

Savoir-faire emblématique

Its jade follows the old Tengchong method of "grinding jade": because jadeite is second only to diamond in hardness it can only be ground, not cut, so the craftsman holds the rough to the edge of the grinding disc and works it ceaselessly, reading the stone to set its form and draw on its colour, turning stubborn rock into a vessel — the craft tradition of Tengchong jade carving (national ICH) kept alive at the house level.

Statut culturel

Fushenglong is a century-old emerald house of Tengchong widely called a "time-honoured brand," though no public authoritative record confirms its inclusion in the Ministry of Commerce's China Time-Honoured Brand or Yunnan Time-Honoured Brand lists, so it is recorded here as a local century-old firm.
