Choi Heong Yuen Bakery opened in 1935 on Rua da Calçada in Macau, among the city's oldest pastry houses, known since the Portuguese era for its mung-bean almond cakes and a witness to nearly a century of Macau's souvenir-food trade.

Ce qui a fait sa renommée

The bakery's signature almond cakes are made from mung-bean flour mixed with syrup and slow-roasted over charcoal until crumbly and fragrant; alongside the later rival Koi Kei they form the two great names of Macau almond cakes, a must-bring souvenir for generations of visitors.

Savoir-faire emblématique

Its almond cakes follow a traditional charcoal-roasting method, with mung-bean flour as the base blended with ground almonds and lard or vegetable oil, pressed in wooden moulds and baked slowly over even heat until crisp yet tender, showing the essence of Macau's old-style pastry craft.

Statut culturel

Choi Heong Yuen is a locally recognised old bakery of Macau; Macau does not run the mainland "China Time-Honoured Brand" grading system, so this entry is recorded as a local time-honoured brand with batches left empty.
