Tianxiang Hao

The Tianxiang tea house was founded in the Daoguang era of the Qing dynasty in Yantai village, Jiangcun township of Fuliang County, by the tea merchant Jiang Liufang, and has a history of roughly 150 years. Fuliang has been a major tea district since the Tang dynasty, immortalized in Bai Juyi's poem 'Song of the Pipa', whose merchant 'went last month to Fuliang to buy tea'.

In 1915 the fourth-generation head Jiang Zifu took Fuliang gongfu black tea to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in the United States and won a gold medal, ranking Fuliang black tea alongside Sri Lankan highland tea and Indian Darjeeling as one of the 'world's three great aromatic teas'. In 2024 'Tianxiang Hao' joined the third batch of China Time-honored Brands, filling a long gap in branding for millennium-old Fuliang tea.

Tianxiang Hao specializes in Fuliang gongfu black tea, using local high-mountain tea leaves processed through the traditional gongfu steps of withering, rolling, fermentation and roasting, yielding a bright red liquor with a high fragrance, part of the same aromatic gongfu black-tea lineage as Keemun.
