Origine

The Xie Fuchun cosmetic craft descends from Yangzhou powder masters such as Dai Chunlin and Zhang Yuanshu, gathered and advanced by Xie Hongye in the early 19th century. With nearly two centuries of history, it embodies Yangzhou's tradition of scented cosmetics.

La forme artistique

The craft is famed for its trio of fragrance, powder and oil: scent is drawn from fresh flowers into base powders and oils, supplemented with herbal ingredients, and worked through many hand stages into scented powders, fragrance beads and hair oils.

Importance culturelle

Inscribed on the fifth national ICH list in 2021, the craft is significant for the study of Chinese folk culture, cosmetics history and local handicraft history.
