Pont de Fuli

Fuli Bridge is an old stone-arched bridge over the Yulong River in the countryside northwest of Yangshuo town, and one of the most peaceful spots in the wider Yangshuo region. For travelers who want to escape the busier stretches of the Ten-Mile Gallery and the Li River bamboo-raft circuit, the bridge and the surrounding farmland offer a quiet half-day of cycling, walking, and reflection among the karst pinnacles.

The bridge itself is a single-arch stone structure, several centuries old, whose graceful span curves over the slow-moving Yulong. The reflection of the arch in the calm water completes the shape into a near-perfect circle when the river is still, which has made the bridge a popular subject for photographers and painters. From the banks of the river, the surrounding karst peaks rise on all sides, framing the bridge in a composition that has the feel of a classical Chinese landscape painting.

The surrounding countryside is one of the quieter corners of the Yangshuo region. The lanes that wind past the bridge run between rice paddies, orchards, and small villages whose way of life has changed only slowly over the decades. The whole stretch feels far removed from the busier circuits around Moon Hill and the Li River piers, and for many visitors, that quiet is the main attraction.

For independent travelers, Fuli Bridge is best reached by bicycle or electric scooter from Yangshuo town, with the ride itself forming part of the experience. A typical circuit runs north along the Yulong River, passing old villages and country temples, with stops for photographs at the bridge, a swim or a paddle in the shallows on a hot day, and lunch at one of the rural restaurants before turning back. Pack water and sun protection, and time the visit for the morning or late afternoon when the light on the river is at its softest.

The bridge and its surroundings sit within the Guilin Karst, a component of the South China Karst UNESCO World Heritage serial property.
