Zoo de Wuhan

Wuhan Zoo is a large urban zoo set on the shores of Moshui Lake in the Hanyang district of Wuhan. As the city's main zoo, it combines wildlife display, animal education, breeding, and rescue work, and it serves as one of the most popular family destinations in the city. For travelers visiting Wuhan with children, or anyone wanting a relaxed day among greenery and animals, it is an easy and rewarding choice.

The grounds spread across roughly seventy hectares, with water making up nearly half of the site, which gives the whole zoo a leafy, lakeside character. Enclosures and animal houses are arranged in a network of paths, with shaded walkways and lakeside pavilions between them. The layout is gentle and pleasant for walking, and the water setting keeps the air cooler in summer than in many of the city's more built-up parks.

The animal collection is wide-ranging. The most popular residents are the giant pandas, who draw the biggest crowds, followed by golden snub-nosed monkeys, elephants, giraffes, chimpanzees, penguins, big cats, and a wide variety of birds and smaller mammals. Mornings are the best time to see the animals active and to avoid the biggest crowds, especially on weekends and holidays. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for walking the grounds, when the lakeside trees are in leaf and the heat has eased. As part of a Wuhan itinerary, the zoo pairs well with a relaxed afternoon in the Hanyang district, and it offers a fun, low-key day out, particularly for families with children.
