À propos de Grand site de la Montagne de Feu à Tourfan
The Flaming Mountains Grand Scenic Area (Tulufan Huoyanshan Da Jingqu) is a developed visitor complex on the eastern stretch of the Flaming Mountains in Turpan, Xinjiang, opened in 2017 and themed around the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West." The site complements the more established Flaming Mountains scenic stop by layering a literary and theatrical interpretation onto the natural setting of the red sandstone ridge.
The narrative thread is the episode in "Journey to the West" in which the monkey-hero Sun Wukong attempts to cross the Flaming Mountains on his journey west, an episode that has shaped Chinese popular imagination of Turpan for centuries. Visitor facilities translate this story into a sequence of physical experiences. A 1.2-kilometer "dream tunnel" carries a small sightseeing train through dioramas and light projections illustrating scenes from the novel, and a circuit road of roughly eighteen kilometers runs around the most visually dramatic section of the ridge, reached by shuttle bus.
The site also includes a small geological museum that introduces the formation of the Turpan Basin, the tectonic history of the Flaming Mountains, and the climate of the surrounding desert. Other stops on the circuit include a reconstructed "Dragon Palace," a spring shrine, and viewpoints that give clear sightlines along the striated red cliffs. The geological content is modest but useful as orientation for travelers who will go on to visit the ancient cities of Gaochang and Jiaohe or the Bezeklik Caves later in the day.
The Grand Scenic Area is aimed primarily at domestic visitors familiar with the novel, and the theatrical elements will read as whimsical to travelers without that background. For international visitors, the main practical reasons to stop here are the panoramic circuit road, which gives the broadest single view of the Flaming Mountains available at any developed site, and the geological museum, which provides useful framing for the rest of a Turpan itinerary.
A visit typically takes about two hours if the full circuit is made. The site is usually paired with the nearby ancient city of Gaochang, the Bezeklik Caves, and Grape Valley on an eastern Turpan day trip. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons; in summer, the shuttle-bus circuit is preferable to extended walking, and midday heat should be factored into the day's planning.
