Nanhu Square, on the eastern shore of South Lake in Nanning's Qingxiu district, is the formal open-space counterpart to the larger and more naturalistic Nanhu Park next door. Together with the park it forms a continuous band of public green space along the lake, but where the park emphasizes winding paths and dense planting, the square is built around larger paved plazas, ornamental lawns, and structured views across the water. For travelers walking the lakefront, it is one of the natural stopping points and one of the best places to take in the city's modern skyline.

The square's design centers on a dry-deck fountain area and a network of pedestrian routes that organize the space into distinct zones, separating active gathering areas from quieter lawns. A viewing terrace on the north side looks out across the lake toward the Langdong CBD skyline, giving one of the clearest framed views of Nanning's modern business district, while a long banyan-tree corridor toward the south end of the square creates a naturally shaded walkway whose interlocking canopy has become a signature feature of the lakefront. The combination of open hard surfaces and mature planting makes the square feel at once civic and shaded.

Most visitors encounter Nanhu Square as part of a longer walk along the lakefront, combining it with the adjacent park. The square is at its most active in the early morning and evening, when it fills with locals walking, dancing, and exercising, and it is one of the best places in the city to watch informal group activities such as square dance and outdoor exercise. The framed views of the CBD towers make it a popular photography stop, particularly at dusk when the office lights begin to switch on.

Nanhu Square is a useful anchor for a lakefront itinerary in Nanning, and its proximity to the restaurants and hotels of the Qingxiu district makes it easy to fold into a half-day plan. Clean, modern, and people-watching-friendly, it complements the wilder planting of the neighboring park and rounds out the experience of the South Lake corridor.
