The Yellow River Iron Bridge, also known as the Zhongshan Bridge, is a historic steel bridge across the Yellow River in central Lanzhou, in the Chengguan district. As one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, it has long been the visual symbol of Lanzhou and the structure most strongly associated with the city's identity as the principal crossing point of the upper Yellow River. For international visitors, a walk across the bridge is one of the essential experiences of any visit to Lanzhou.

The bridge is over two hundred metres in length and roughly seven or eight metres in width, dimensions that have proved sufficient for its long role as a central urban crossing. Its structure retains the form of the original black-painted steel bridge built more than a century ago, giving the bridge an austere industrial character that contrasts sharply with the modern city that has grown up around it. In the course of repeated renovations, five large steel arches have been added to the original structure, giving the bridge its current silhouette and a visual rhythm that has become one of the most photographed sights in Lanzhou.

At the southern end of the bridge, a formal marker displays the characters for "Zhongshan Bridge" in gold, alongside an older stone stele recording the history of the structure. The spot has become a routine meeting and photograph point, with crowds of visitors stopping to take pictures against the bridge and the Yellow River beyond. From the bridge itself, the view downstream takes in the Lanzhou waterfront, the mountains on either side of the river, and the dense urban grid of the city centre.

For international visitors, the Iron Bridge is best treated as a short but essential stop, generally combined with a visit to the adjacent White Pagoda Mountain on the northern bank and a walk along the southern waterfront. Allow thirty to forty-five minutes for the bridge itself, including photographs and a slow walk across. The bridge is at its most photogenic in the early morning or around sunset, when the steel structure takes on warmer tones and the river reflects the changing light. The surrounding district is dense with restaurants, teahouses, and shops, making the area a natural anchor for an evening in central Lanzhou.
