Guangdong Science Center, located at the western edge of the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center in Panyu, is one of the largest comprehensive popular science facilities in the province and a major destination for educational tourism in southern China. Recognized as a national science education base, it combines exhibition halls, science theaters, and extensive outdoor grounds into a single institution devoted to making science accessible.

The architecture alone is worth noting. Seen from the side, the building resembles a vast "aircraft carrier of science and technology," while viewed from above its footprint echoes the shape of the kapok flower, Guangzhou's official floral emblem. From the main entrance it reads as a dynamic "eye of scientific discovery," a set of layered metaphors that signal the ambition of the project before a visitor even steps inside.

Inside, the center hosts roughly a dozen permanent themed halls covering topics that range from childhood discovery, experimentation, and transportation to digital worlds, materials science, space flight, the green environment, and human health. Hundreds of interactive exhibits and several temporary exhibition areas give visitors plenty to handle and explore, with the explicit goal of learning by doing rather than by reading labels alone.

Four science theaters, including a large-format three-dimensional screen, a four-dimensional theater, a three-dimensional theater, and a motion-simulator theater, round out the experience with immersive presentations. Outdoors, an ecological lake and plantings characteristic of the Lingnan region frame the building and add a quieter dimension to a visit.
