Gaodang Millennium Buyi Ancient Village Cultural Tourism Area is a national 4A-rated scenic area centered on an authentic Buyi ethnic minority village, located about 5.5 kilometers southwest of the seat of Zhenning County near Anshun. Sitting at an elevation of roughly 1,186 meters, the village enjoys a notably cool climate with distinct seasons, a welcome contrast for visitors traveling during Guizhou's warmer months.

The village occupies a basin ringed by mountains, and local Buyi tradition describes the setting poetically as peaks cradling a cooking pot, which gave rise to the village's Buyi-language name. Two ponds sit to the north beneath the surrounding hills, and it's this combination of high ground and standing water that gave the settlement its Chinese name, Gaodang, meaning roughly "high pond." Traditional stone houses, built from the region's abundant limestone, still define much of the village's architecture, offering visitors a genuine look at Buyi rural life rather than a reconstructed showpiece.

Wandering the village lets visitors see everyday Buyi customs, traditional stonework construction, and the terraced, mountain-ringed landscape that has shaped the community for generations.
