Nanping Quzi originated in Jiuzhaigou County during the Ming and Qing dynasties, fusing the musical styles of Han, Tibetan and Qiang peoples. It is a living fossil of multicultural exchange in northwestern Sichuan.

La forma artística

Performers sing in the local dialect of Jiuzhaigou County, accompanied by sanxian lute, yuqin moon guitar and pipa. Themes range from romance to historical tales, performed at festivals and ceremonial gatherings.

Importancia cultural

Nanping Quzi is a living testament to the historic cultural exchange between Han, Tibetan and Qiang peoples in southwestern China, inscribed on the national ICH registry in 2008.
