Área paisajística del monte Qixing, Zhangjiajie

Qixing Mountain is a karst plateau on the southern side of Zhangjiajie, separated from Tianmen Mountain by a deep canyon and named for the seven peaks arranged across its summit in a pattern said to resemble the Big Dipper. Compared with the better-known peaks of Wulingyuan and Tianmen Mountain, Qixing Mountain is a more recent addition to the city's roster of developed scenic areas, and its isolated plateau landform makes it geologically distinct from the sandstone pillar fields Zhangjiajie is most famous for.

The plateau's edges drop away in sheer cliffs of several hundred meters, giving the summit a fortress-like quality, while the top itself is a broad upland of rolling hills rather than a single jagged ridge. The main developed viewing platform, known as the Eye of the Sky, is a bright red steel-and-glass structure cantilevered out over the canyon, offering a wide view across the surrounding mountains and the urban basin of Zhangjiajie below, and it has quickly become the most photographed feature of the site.

Because Qixing Mountain is newer and less established than Tianmen Mountain or Wulingyuan, it tends to draw smaller crowds, which can be either an advantage or a sign of more limited infrastructure depending on what kind of experience a visitor is after. The plateau's karst geology, with its combination of cliffs, caves, and broad upland terrain, is also quite different from the quartz sandstone pillars across the city, giving the site a distinct identity within the wider Zhangjiajie landscape.

For visitors planning a Zhangjiajie itinerary, Qixing Mountain works best as an additional stop for travelers with extra time who have already seen the headline sights, or as a quieter alternative to Tianmen Mountain for visitors who want dramatic canyon and plateau views without the busiest crowds.
