Where the larger Chinese Academy of Sciences botanical garden at Menglun spreads across an entire rainforest river bend and needs a day to do properly, this garden is smaller, central, and easier to fit into a relaxed morning or afternoon, making it a useful stop for travelers who want a hit of tropical color without leaving the prefectural capital.

The garden is arranged as a series of themed beds and small conservatories showing heliconias, gingers, bougainvillea, frangipani, orchids, lotus and water lilies, bromeliads, and dozens of species whose common English names are less familiar but whose blooms are unmistakably tropical. Plantings rotate with the seasons, and even a short visit will cross paths with butterflies, sunbirds, and the occasional monitor lizard. The layout is flat and paved, with shaded rest pavilions, making it suitable for older visitors and families with small children.
