Rongguo Mansion and Ningrong Street together form a meticulously recreated Qing-era courtyard complex in the old town of Zhengding, just north of Shijiazhuang, built to bring the world of Cao Xueqin's classic novel Dream of the Red Chamber to physical life. Constructed in strict accordance with both the descriptions in the novel and the building regulations of the Qing court, the compound was conceived as a film location and stands as one of the earliest and most ambitious imitation Qing residential complexes in China. Within the mansion, the layout follows the novel's account of the Jia family's residence, with the grand reception halls, the inner family quarters, and the more intimate garden spaces arranged along a strict central axis. Visitors move through furnished rooms whose carved beams, lattice windows, and period furnishings recreate the daily life of an upper-class Chinese household of the late imperial period, with informative displays explaining the novel's characters, relationships, and the social customs that shape the plot. Adjoining the mansion, Ningrong Street is the two-hundred-meter paved lane of traditional shopfronts that served as the principal outdoor set for the nineteen eighty-seven landmark television adaptation of the novel. The street preserves the same Qing-period look that made that series so visually influential, and many of its most memorable scenes were shot here. The street has also appeared in numerous other period dramas since, and visitors often enjoy spotting the views they remember from the screen.

Spring and autumn are the most photogenic seasons, when the courtyard trees, blossoms, and the raking light through the wooden screens bring out the colors of the architecture.
