The Wang Yangming Native Place is a historic district in the core of Shaoxing dedicated to the memory of Wang Yangming, the Ming dynasty philosopher, general, and statesman widely regarded as the most important Chinese philosopher of the sixteenth century and the leading figure of the School of Mind within Neo-Confucianism. The native place area preserves the lanes, courtyard houses, and historic structures associated with Wang's life in Shaoxing, where he spent much of his career and developed the philosophical system for which he is remembered.
