Patrimonio cultural

The productive-protection transmission centre for the Tibetan black-pottery firing technique stands in Tangdui village of Nixi township, Shangri-La, built upon the Nixi handcraft passed down for more than two thousand years, and is the core preservation and display site for the national ICH item "pottery firing technique (Tibetan black pottery)." The whole village has lived by pottery for generations; the centre unites demonstration, master-apprentice transmission, productive protection and visitor experience, where the national inheritor Sunnuo Qilin and his disciples keep the old methods alive.

Visita: Walking into Tangdui, every courtyard is heaped with red clay and unfired wares, the potters seated among them, beating and throwing by hand, polishing with pebbles, shaping a lump of earth into a butter-tea pot or brazier; on open ground a mound of wood and grass sends up thick smoke, the ancient moment of carbon-smoking that turns the clay black. Under a master's guidance a visitor may shape a small vessel by hand and carry home the warmth of a thousand-year craft.
