Sobre Parque de exposición del patrimonio inmaterial del condado de Shache (Yarkant)

The Shache County Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo Park is a cultural institution in Yarkand (Shache) County, east of Kashgar, dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and presentation of the local intangible cultural heritage. The park functions both as a museum of living traditions and as a performance venue, where the music, dance, craft, and ritual traditions of the region are showcased for visitors. For travellers interested in the cultural traditions of the region, it is one of the most important stops in the broader Kashgar area.

The scope of the collection is broad. The expo park documents more than two hundred distinct items of local intangible cultural heritage, ranging across music, dance, theatre, narrative arts, crafts, folk skills, traditional knowledge, and ritual practice. These traditions are presented through a combination of static displays, multimedia exhibits, and live demonstrations by practising tradition-bearers. The aim is not only to describe the traditions but to keep them visible, supported, and transmitted to new generations, and many of the presentations are given by working craftspeople and musicians rather than by museum staff.

The musical traditions on display are of particular importance. The Yarkand region is closely associated with the classical suite traditions of Uyghur music, and performances within the park are one of the most reliable ways for visitors to hear this repertoire performed in its place of origin. The same is true of dance, with several distinctive regional styles presented in formal performance, and of craft, with traditional textile, metalwork, and woodworking traditions demonstrated in working studios.

For international visitors, the Shache Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo Park is best treated as a focused cultural visit, allowing at least a half-day. The park is located in Yarkand, which can be visited as a day trip from Kashgar or as part of a longer regional itinerary that takes in the Amanisha Khan Mausoleum, the Yarkand Khanate tombs, and the Yarkand old town. Allow two to three hours for the expo park itself. Live performances and craft demonstrations are scheduled at specific times, so checking the daily programme on arrival helps plan the visit.

The Shache County Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo Park lies in Shache county of Kashgar prefecture, a dedicated park for displaying and protecting local intangible heritage. Shache is hailed as the "capital of the Twelve Muqam," a place where the music and dance of East and West met and blended. The park gathers more than two hundred local items of muqam, music, dance, theatre, storytelling, craft and folk knowledge, making it the core window onto the Uyghur heritage of southern Xinjiang.

Visita: Inside the park one can hear a full suite of the Twelve Muqam performed, the dutar and hand-drum weaving the ancient Silk Road melody; the craft section offers live demonstrations of Uyghur pottery, printed felt and instrument-making, in which visitors may join, and feel the deep artistic atmosphere of Shache as the birthplace of the muqam.
