Torre del Dragón

Dragon Tower, officially known as the Heilongjiang Radio and Television Tower, is one of Harbin's most visible landmarks, a tall broadcasting tower whose name draws on the dragon as a symbol of Chinese civilization, echoing the "Heilongjiang" ("Black Dragon River") name of the province in which the city sits. Rising above the surrounding cityscape, the tower has become one of the standard reference points for orienting oneself in Harbin and a popular stop for panoramic views.

Visitors typically ride to an observation area partway up the tower, from which the layout of the city becomes clear: the winding path of the Songhua River, the green expanse of Sun Island across the water, and the dense mix of Russian-influenced and modern architecture that defines central Harbin. On clear days, the views extend well beyond the immediate downtown area, making the tower a useful stop for getting a sense of the city's geography before exploring at street level.

Beyond its function as a broadcasting structure and viewing platform, Dragon Tower is often included on lists of Harbin's must-see modern landmarks alongside the city's historic Russian-era buildings, offering a contrast between the city's contemporary skyline ambitions and its early twentieth-century architectural heritage. Some visitors also use the tower's height to get an alternative perspective on the Ice and Snow World or Sun Island's snow sculpture displays during the winter season.

A visit to Dragon Tower generally takes an hour or two, including time to ride up, take in the views, and photograph the surrounding cityscape. It works well as a standalone stop or as part of a broader day that also includes riverside attractions on Sun Island, giving travelers to Harbin a bird's-eye view to complement the ground-level sightseeing found elsewhere in the city.
