Sobre Área paisajística del monte Wudang del Sur

South Wudang Mountain, in Wudang town within Longnan county under Ganzhou, is a 4A-level scenic area straddling the border between Jiangxi and Guangdong and centered on a dramatic Danxia red-sandstone range. Distinct from the more famous Wudang Mountains in Hubei, it is celebrated for its sheer peaks, Buddhist heritage, and the long gallery of strange rock formations that unfolds along the highway. For travelers exploring the Longnan area, it is one of the most visually striking natural sights.

The mountain's defining feature is a forest of ninety-nine Danxia peaks rising abruptly from the valley floor, their red cliffs sharpened into columns and blades that earn comparisons to a row of swords pointing at the sky. This "ten-li gallery" of peaks is laced with walking trails, glass walkways, and cliffside paths that carry visitors up and across the formations, opening onto sweeping views over the surrounding countryside. Buddhist temples and pavilions are tucked into the rock, layering cultural interest onto the geological spectacle, and at high points the whole expanse of red peaks folds out toward the horizon.

The climbing and cliff walks involve stairs, exposure, and elevation, so sturdy shoes and a head for heights are needed, and you should allow a half-day or more to do the trails justice. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for hiking, when the temperate weather makes the exposed ridgelines pleasant, while summer heat can make the climbs taxing. Weekdays and early mornings are quieter, while holidays bring more visitors to the most popular viewpoints and glass walkways.

South Wudang Mountain pairs naturally with the Guanxi Wei Hakka fortified houses in the same Longnan area, making a satisfying day that combines architecture and dramatic scenery. For hikers, photographers, and anyone drawn to unusual landscapes, it is one of the great Danxia sights of southern Jiangxi and a strong reason to venture south of downtown Ganzhou.
