Beijing Daoxiangcun

Beijing Daoxiangcun was founded in 1895, in the late Qing, and was the first to bring southern-style pastries to the capital — earning it a reputation as Beijing's original purveyor of southern sweets.

Daoxiangcun is famous for its seasonal pastries — mooncakes at Mid-Autumn, the assorted "eight treasures" boxes at festivals — and remains a default choice for Beijingers buying gifts or treats during the holidays.

Its pastries are made fresh and to the season, blending southern and northern techniques into thin-skinned, generously filled sweets that are rich without being cloying — the range shifting with the solar terms in the rhythm of handmade confectionery.
