Qipao Tailoring (Yuqian)

Immaterielles Kulturerbe der Provinz
Ursprung

The Yuqian qipao craft is said to date to the Qing-dynasty Tongzhi reign, handed down through the family in old-town Jinan. It represents the city's tradition of hand-tailored Chinese clothing and is listed as Jinan municipal heritage.

Die Kunstform

The craft centres on fully bespoke handwork: a single qipao takes more than forty measurements and dozens of steps — cutting, sewing, piping, knotted buttons and embroidery — for a garment fitted to one wearer alone.

Kulturelle Bedeutung

The craft carries on the cutting and aesthetics of Chinese dress, expressing the beauty of the qipao, and stands as one of Jinan's notable handicrafts — now reaching an international clientele through bespoke work.
