Liuyang Fireworks Making Technique

The Liuyang fireworks craft has a long lineage, and Liuyang, a county-level city under Changsha, is known as the "home of fireworks," its firecracker making said to reach back to the Tang dynasty. The technique uses traditional materials such as native paper, saltpetre, sulphur and charcoal through an elaborate sequence of steps. It entered the first national ICH list in 2006.

Traditional Liuyang fireworks are made entirely by hand through dozens of steps—fuse-making, tube-rolling, charge-filling, sealing, stringing and finishing—with the powder ratios and colour effects controlled entirely by the master's experience, exacting and meticulous.

Liuyang fireworks represent China's pyrotechnic culture and sell across the world, carrying deep festival folklore and handcraft tradition and holding major cultural and industrial value.
