Huangshizhai-Seilbahn

The Huangshizhai Cableway is a passenger ropeway within the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park section of the Wulingyuan UNESCO World Heritage area, carrying visitors up to the Huangshizhai plateau. Huangshizhai is one of the older developed scenic zones within the national forest park, known for its elevated viewing platforms overlooking dense clusters of sandstone pillars, and the cableway provides a shortcut to the top of the plateau for visitors who prefer not to climb on foot.

The ride itself offers a brief but scenic ascent through the forested lower slopes of the plateau, with views opening up across the surrounding pillars as the cableway nears the upper station. Once at the top, a network of paths leads around the plateau's rim, with a series of lookout points giving panoramic views of the surrounding stone forest, and the circuit at the top is generally considered one of the more manageable walks within the wider Wulingyuan area.

Like the other cableways and elevators inside Wulingyuan, the Huangshizhai line experiences queues during peak visiting hours and on Chinese public holidays, when visitor numbers across the park swell considerably. Many visitors choose to ride the cableway in one direction and walk back down to form a loop, or combine it with the shuttle bus network to move on to other sub-regions of the park afterward.

For visitors building a Zhangjiajie itinerary, the Huangshizhai Cableway is best understood as one of several circulation options within the national forest park, alongside the Bailong Elevator and the internal shuttle bus system. It is particularly useful for visitors who want to reach the upper lookouts of the plateau with minimal climbing, and it serves as a useful fallback when other parts of Wulingyuan are overcrowded.
