Chengshan Head, also known as Cape Chengshan or "End of the Mountains," is the easternmost point of the Chinese coast, located on the eastern tip of the Jiaodong Peninsula at Rongcheng, near Weihai. A 4A-rated scenic area, it is one of the most photogenic coastal viewpoints in northern China and the closest point on the Chinese mainland to the Korean peninsula across the Yellow Sea.

The cape takes its name from its position at the eastern end of the Cheng mountain range. The site is surrounded on three sides by the sea, with steep cliffs dropping into churning water where cold northern currents meet the shallow coastal shelf. The cliff formations, sea stacks, and constant wind give the cape a wilder atmosphere than the sheltered beaches to the south. For travelers, the principal draw is the sunrise: because Cape Chengshan is the easternmost point on the Chinese coast, the dawn here arrives earlier than almost anywhere else in the country.

Cape Chengshan has carried strong cultural and political meaning for more than two thousand years. According to the Records of the Grand Historian, the First Emperor of Qin visited the cape twice during his eastern inspection tours, and the Han emperor Wu also traveled here. Temples, steles, and reconstructed ritual architecture on the headland commemorate these imperial visits, and the wider scenic area layers later coastal defense sites and folk religious shrines across the cliff top.

For a self-guided traveler, a sunrise visit is the iconic experience, but it requires an early start from Weihai or Rongcheng and a willingness to share the viewing terraces with a substantial crowd in peak season. Bring layers against the wind, comfortable shoes for the cliff paths, and a translation app for the historical signage. Allow a half day, and pair the cape with the Xixiakou area for a full eastern peninsula circuit.
