Über Shenzhen-Bucht-Park

Shenzhen Bay Park is the largest waterfront green space in Shenzhen, a continuous stretch of coastal parkland running along the northern shore of Shenzhen Bay from the Nanshan peninsula in the west to the Futian mangroves in the east. Roughly ten and a half kilometres long and covering around 129 hectares in total, it is one of the most heavily used public spaces in the city.

The park is organised as a sequence of zones rather than a single uniform landscape. The western end, closest to the Nanshan business district, includes a watersports and roller-skiing area, formal lawns, and contemporary landscape installations aimed at the young-professional population of the surrounding district. The middle sections run along seawall promenades with views directly across the bay to the Mai Po Nature Reserve in the Hong Kong New Territories.

The eastern end is the most ecologically significant: the Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve, one of the few remaining mangrove forests on the southern Chinese coast and an important stopover site for migratory birds on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. The mangroves are protected, but the park promenade runs along their northern edge, and during the autumn and spring migration seasons the area is one of the most accessible birdwatching sites in southern China. Black-faced spoonbills, egrets, herons, and numerous shorebird species can be seen from the seawall.

Cycling is one of the most popular ways to experience the park. A continuous bike path runs along much of the waterfront, and bike-sharing stations are scattered along the route. Walking the full length of the park makes for an easy half-day itinerary, and there are numerous cafés, food trucks, and convenience stores at the major access points.

For international travellers, Shenzhen Bay Park is one of the most rewarding free attractions in the city. The closest metro access points are Shenzhen Bay Park station on Line 9 and several stations along the Houhai and Coastal City corridor on Lines 2 and 11.
