Bianliang Kleine Song-Stadt

Bianliang Little Song City is a large indoor dining and entertainment complex in western Kaifeng, built from the conversion of the former Tokyo Art Centre. The project reuses roughly fifty thousand square metres of floor space, of which about twenty thousand are devoted to a single continuous food street, making it one of the most concentrated celebrations of Kaifeng's regional cuisine anywhere in the city. It has been marketed since its opening as "Kaifeng's reception room" and is regularly cited as a new cultural landmark for the city.

The food street is the heart of the complex. Stalls line the lane in the style of a Song market, offering Kaifeng specialties alongside dishes from across China. The selection is broad enough to serve as a one-stop introduction to local cuisine: travellers short on time can sample the most famous regional dishes in a single sitting, without needing to navigate separate restaurants or street markets. The setting is climate-controlled, brightly lit, and designed for long, social meals, which makes it particularly useful during the cold winters and hot summers of Henan.

Beyond the food, the complex houses performance spaces, retail outlets, and cultural displays that round out the experience. The programming leans into Kaifeng's identity as the Northern Song capital, with decorative schemes and entertainment that echo the city's imperial history. For many domestic tour groups, Little Song City serves as the evening counterpart to a day spent at the historic sites, a place to eat, watch a short performance, and buy souvenirs in a single stop. The atmosphere is closer to a polished cultural mall than to a traditional street market.

For international visitors, Bianliang Little Song City is best treated as a convenient, weatherproof option for a first night in Kaifeng. It does not replace the open-air night markets or the more atmospheric historic streets, but it offers a reliable, low-friction way to taste regional cuisine and to watch how Kaifeng presents itself to domestic tourists. Allow two to three hours for a meal and a relaxed walk through the complex.
