The Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area is a national 5A-level scenic area in Jingdezhen devoted to the history and living craft of Chinese porcelain, and one of the most important ceramic heritage sites in the "Porcelain Capital." Rather than simply displaying porcelain in cases, it recreates the actual kilns, workshops, and working techniques of Jingdezhen across the centuries, so that visitors can see how porcelain was actually made, fired, and decorated from the Song dynasty through to the Qing.
The site is divided into two main areas, a historical kiln display zone and a folk customs display zone. In the kiln zone, restored ancient kilns from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties are rebuilt or reproduced in their original forms, each representing a different era of porcelain technology, and craftspeople demonstrate the traditional techniques of throwing, glazing, painting, and firing that made Jingdezhen porcelain famous. In the folk customs zone, old houses have been re-erected and adapted into workshops and exhibition spaces, recreating the atmosphere of the old porcelain-producing city.
What sets the area apart is the chance to see craft in action. Artisans work at the potter's wheel, paint blue-and-white wares by hand, and tend the traditional kilns, so that the whole site feels less like a museum and more like a living workshop. Among the unique experiences is the porcelain music performance, in which musicians play traditional instruments made entirely of ceramic, producing a delicate and surprising sound that has become one of the signatures of the area.

The Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Area is the only national-level scenic area in China themed on ceramic culture, split into a historical-kilns zone, a ceramic-folklore zone and a creative riverside zone. In the core historical-kilns zone, typical kilns—the Qing town kiln, Ming gourd kiln, Yuan mantou kiln and Song dragon kiln—have been rebuilt and refired, alongside what is billed as the world's oldest porcelain-making production line, turning the two national ICH crafts of hand-made porcelain and kiln-workshop building from drawings into something visible, fireable and touchable.
