The China Ship Administration Culture Scenic Area is a heritage site near Mawei port on the Min River downstream of Fuzhou, preserving the remains of one of the most important industrial undertakings of China's modernization drive in the late Qing dynasty. As a 4A-level scenic area, it commemorates the Mawei Shipyard, founded in the 1860s, which became one of the largest modern dockyards in East Asia and a cradle of China's naval and industrial modernization. For travelers interested in how China tried to engage with the modern world, it is one of the most historically significant sites in Fuzhou.
