The Red Panda Forest Park is a conservation, breeding, and education center dedicated to the red panda, the smaller and far less famous cousin of the giant panda, located in the Dujiangyan area of Sichuan. It is the largest park in western China built specifically around red pandas, and for travelers who have already seen giant pandas elsewhere in the region, it offers a different and often more intimate experience, focused on a species that is just as threatened in the wild and considerably harder to observe in most zoos.

Red pandas are native to the same broad band of mountain forest that stretches across southwest China and the eastern Himalayas, and the Dujiangyan region sits squarely within their natural range. The park is built around this native setting, with wooded enclosures designed to mimic the cool, bamboo-rich forest that red pandas naturally inhabit.
