Rentoudun-Feuchtgebiet-Landschaftsgebiet

The Rentoudun Wetland Scenic Area, also marketed as Beauty Valley, is a flower-rich hiking destination on the Bashang plateau near Fengning, named for a ridge that, seen from a distance, resembles a sleeping woman lying along the horizon. Part of the wider Bashang wetland system northwest of Chengde, it is one of the larger natural forest and wildflower hiking areas in the region, and a quieter, more nature-focused alternative to the busier grassland resorts. For walkers and photographers, it is a rewarding stop.

The valley combines stands of white birch, larch, and rowan with open meadows and wetlands that fill with wildflowers through the summer. Rare alpine species such as the globeflower and shrubby cinquefoil grow here alongside a wide range of medicinal and edible wild plants, giving the area a quiet botanical richness that rewards slow walking. A wooden boardwalk runs for roughly five kilometers through the meadows and forest, leading out toward the ridge whose silhouette gives the valley its name, with benches and viewing points along the way.

Plan for a relaxed half-day hike. Summer and early autumn are the best seasons, when the flowers are in bloom and the meadows are at their most colorful; outside that window the plateau is windswept and the colors fade. The boardwalk is easy underfoot, but sturdy shoes and warm layers are still a good idea given the altitude and exposure. Go early for softer light and fewer people, and bring water and snacks, as facilities inside the valley are minimal.

Rentoudun fits naturally into a Fengning Bashang itinerary, pairing well with the nearby grassland resorts and the Baili Sky Road, and it suits travelers who want an active, low-key nature experience in between the bigger stops. It is not a headline attraction, but for visitors who enjoy walking among wildflowers with a quiet ridge on the horizon, it is one of the most pleasant corners of the region.
