Über Wasservorhangshöhle
Water Curtain Cave is a distinctive cave passage located within the body of Huangguoshu Waterfall itself, positioned partway up the face of the falls behind the curtain of falling water. Carved naturally by the constant flow over the limestone cliff, the cave allows visitors to walk through a tunnel-like passage directly behind the cascading water, an experience unique among China's major waterfalls.
The passage is made up of a series of chamber-like openings and window-like gaps in the rock that look directly out onto the falling water and the pool below, along with formations shaped by centuries of erosion, including hanging rock features and ancient tree roots that cling to the cave walls. Walking through, visitors move between light and shadow as they pass each opening, catching glimpses of the waterfall from an angle almost no other vantage point offers.
One of the more memorable features of the walk is the view of a rainbow that often forms in the mist over the pool below the falls, visible through the cave's window-like openings on sunny days. Because the rainbow's position shifts as visitors move along the passage, walking the cave offers a changing, almost interactive view of this natural phenomenon rather than a single fixed sight.
As part of the main Huangguoshu Waterfall complex, Water Curtain Cave is one of the signature experiences for any visitor to Anshun's most famous natural attraction, and walking through it is often considered the highlight of a Huangguoshu visit precisely because it lets visitors experience the waterfall from the inside rather than only viewing it from a distance.
